According to ancient legends, Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, performed ten Ashwamedh Yajnas (horse sacrifices) here to welcome Lord Shiva. The name "Dashashwamedh" itself means ' the place of ten horse sacrifices '. It is believed that these Yajnas were performed to glorify Kashi as the holiest city on the earth and to please Lord Shiva, who resides here as Vishwanath - the Lord of the universe.

Another story tells that Lord Brahma created this ghat himself to welcome Lord Shiva when he returned to earth after long meditation. Since then, the ghat has been regarded as a place to creation, Spirituality and the divine union.

Every evening, the ghat comes alive with the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti, where priests dressed in saffron perform synchronised rituals with lamps, incense and chants.
